EAST GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) -- East Grand Rapids is celebrating the grand opening of the newly completed Reeds Lake Trail boardwalk.
The city held a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday morning between Reeds Lake and Fisk Lake.
The boardwalk replaces a more than 80-year-old structure that was too narrow for safe passage and often flooded when lake levels were high.
"We are thrilled that the boardwalk is completed on schedule and that it is a beautiful gem for all to enjoy," said E.G.R. Mayor, Amna Seibold. "We are committed to ensuring that popular amenities in our community such as the Reeds Lake Trail are taken care of and available for generations to come."
The new elevated boardwalk is 14-feet wide and 500-feet long.
