Daniel Pearl was an inspiration around the world. He was a writer for the wall street journal and shared his passion for music wherever he traveled. A violin enthusiast; Pearl would join and play with local ensembles during his travels and celebrate culture through music.
However, Pearl’s life was tragically cut short after being kidnaped and executed by by a group of Al-Qaeda extremists while working on a story in Pakistan. In memory of Daniel Pearl, the East Grand Rapids orchestra holds an annual benefit concert called Harmony for Humanity for World Music.
The orchestra will be playing a medley of traditional Jewish songs to recognize Pearl’s heritage as well as various pieces from around the world to embody his love for culture.
The proceeds from the concert will go to a music school in Africa for children. The amount of funds that are raised will determine how many underprivileged African children will experience passion through music.
