KDL - Attention Teen Filmmakers! | Arts & Culture
Title (Max 100 Characters)
Thousands of Kent County teens will soon have the opportunity to channel their inner Academy Award contender at their local library.
Kent District Library has received a $6,000 Community Grants award from electronics retailer Best Buy to purchase film editing software and hardware. The film editing suite, which includes two editing stations, will be housed at KDL’s Cascade Township branch and is scheduled to be installed sometime in November. KDL was one of more than 3,600 organizations that applied for the most recent round of grants from Best Buy’s Children’s Foundation.
A one-hour beginning video editing seminar, “An Introduction to iMovie for Teens,” will be heldThursday, December 13 from 4:30 to 6:00 PM at the Cascade Township branch. Plans are to offer workshops taught by local film-industry pros, and to support area high schools that provide some film editing hardware and software but lack the resources to be able to offer access to the technology outside school hours.
The technology also will help area teens ready their work for the big screen during the Kent County Teen Film Festival, co-sponsored by KDL and be held Saturday, February 2, 2013, at Celebration Cinema! North.
