Special Event on March 1 – The Solar Eclipse of 2017

The public is invited to this special presentation to prepare for the total solar eclipse on August 21, 2017.

Across a wide area of the United States, there has not been a total eclipse of the sun, since 1970. This summer, we will experience total darkness for possibly 2 minutes and 40 seconds within a 70 mile radius on August 21, 2017.

Dave DeBruyn and George Lessens will give a presentation on Wednesday March 1, 2017 from 7:30pm – 9:00pm called “Where to Go and What to See” taking place at the Grand Rapids Public Museum located at 272 Pearl Street NW in Grand Rapids. This presentation will give the public useful knowledge during this special August event.

The Gaslight Village Business Association invite the community to a fun evening of holiday spirit!

There will be distinguished guests, greeting visitors and all activities are free. Your family will be delighted with the chance to shop with specials from Gaslight retailer. Experience free horse-drawn carriage rides from 5pm to 6pm. Watch children’s faces light up with the sight of live reindeer, getting their picture taken with Santa, snuggling around the bonfire while making Smores and watching the tree lighting ceremony with Santa. It’s an evening you won’t want to miss.

The Junior League of Grand Rapids invite the community to attend this Beneath the Wreath fundraiser, while supporting the projects that help to improve children’s physical health.

Great holiday gifts can be found this Friday, November 4 from 9:00am - 8:00pm and Saturday, November 5 from 9:00am – 4:00pm. Visit St. Nicholas Cultural Center located at 2250 East Paris Avenue SE in Grand Rapids.

These important projects are funded by the generous 15% donation of selected exhibitor’s sales, along with 100% tickets sales.

Public Night at the Observatory on Saturday

Public Night at the Observatory on Saturday

The public is invited to experience sky objects above, 2 Saturdays a month through October at the James C. Veen Observatory.

Visitors have the opportunity to experience the night skies on Saturday, September 24 from 8:30pm to midnight with Veen Observatory telescopes and member’s equipment. The night sky will feature Saturn and Neptune, along with deep Sky Objects such as nebulas, galaxies & various star clusters.This is also a chance to tour the facility & check out the audio visual presentation about the Observatory & the GRAAA.

This Public Night takes place only if the sky is clear. Starting times vary with the sunset. It is a quarter mile walk from the parking area to the top of the hill. If need, ask the lot attendant about assistance to the Observatory.
