City begins enforcing yard waste rules

EAST GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—The City of East Grand Rapids is enforcing restrictions on yard waste to help ensure the safety of employees who must routinely lift and empty the containers.

Residents are limited to a 32 gallon container holding up to 40 pounds of yard waste.  Larger and heavier containers will not be picked up. Large items, such as tree limbs, are not allowed in containers and will typically be picked up on Friday only.

Although these regulations have been in place for several years, the city only recently began enforcing them.  For more information on the rules, call the Public Works Department at (616) 940-4870.
