My Town EGR: Snow hinders water meter readers for a second month

My Town EGR: Snow hinders water meter readers for a second month

EAST GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.-- The City of East Grand Rapids says the snow still blanketing the community means the majority of residential water bills will be estimates again this month.

Because of the snowy, icy conditions, city meter readers were not able to access all water meters for monthly readings.  Approximately 55 percent of residential water bills will be estimated for March.  Last month, roughly 30 percent of city water bills were estimates, based on average household winter water usage.

Residents are encouraged to help speed up the meter reading process by  removing ice and snow blocking access to their water meter. Once a read can be taken, future bills will be adjusted to reflect actual usage.

Anyone with questions can contcat the water billing department at 949-2110.

My Town EGR: Snow hinders meter readers; many bills estimated

EAST GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.-- The City of East Grand Rapids says the extreme winter weather means nearly one-third of residential water bills will be estimates this month.

Because of the snowy, icy conditions, city meter readers were not able to access all water meters for monthly readings.  Approximately 30 percent of residential waters bills have been estimated for the month of February, based on average household winter water usage.

The city expects the estimates to be a one-time event, but if the extreme winter weather conditions continues, water bills may have to be estimated a second time in March.  Residents are encouraged to help with the process by  removing ice and snow blocking access to their water meter.

Once a read can be taken, bill adjustments will be reflected in the next month's bill.

My Town EGR: Grand Rapids Bicycle Co. to Ride for Reading

EAST GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—Grand Rapids Bicycle Co. is partnering with Team Apex Multisport to once again host a Grand Rapids Ride for Reading delivery during Bike Month.

Ride for Reading week is May 5-11.  Last year, 350 volunteers from 20 cities took part, donating more than 10,000 books to children in low-income areas via bicycle.  The program works by having volunteers pair with a school in a low income area.  They collect the books and sort the books, and volunteer cyclists then deliver the books to children in need.
