High School Exam Prep Offered

The mission of the East Grand Rapids Academic Boosters is "to encourage and recognize the academic achievements of ALL students." To that end, we will again be sponsoring Exam Prep sessions to help students prepare for their final exams. On Thursday, January 20th from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., and again on Sunday, January 23rd from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., there will be select teachers from English, social studies, science, foreign language and math to meet with and assist students. There will also be areas in the high school for those students who wish to do group study sessions.

Our Exam Prep sessions were very well attended in years past and proved to be extremely helpful to the students. We hope you will encourage your students to take advantage of this great opportunity.

Momorable moments at the Daddy-Daughter Dance

From: http://www.eastgr.org

Put on your dancing shoes and enjoy a night out with your daughter at the annual Daddy Daughter Dance on Tuesday, February 1st from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Middle School. Girls in grades Y5's through 8th grade are invited to bring their favorite adult date (dad, grandpa, uncle or special friend) to this semi-formal event. The evening includes your daughter's choice of corsage, DJ dancing, refreshments, and a keepsake photograph to remember your evening.

And, to keep things interesting, there is a Crazy Tie Contest for the men. Show up wearing your outrageous tie and let our judges determine if your neck has what it takes to earn the title "Craziest Tie in East Grand Rapids!"

The cost is $41 per couple for residents ($56 for non-residents) and $29 for each additional daughter ($39 for non residents). Sign up by Friday, January 21 and receive a $10.00 discount.

Ways to Give in East this Holiday Season

HOLIDAY CHARITABLE OPPORTUNITIES. Here's a small sampling of ways to make a difference this holiday season.

Toys For Tots. The Public Safety Department has a collection box in their lobby until Friday, December 17th for residents to donate a new, unwrapped toy, to be given out to children this holiday season. The lobby is open 8:00 am until 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.

Food Pantry Collection. Last year, City employees arranged for a drop-off bin to be placed at the Community Center in conjunction with a yearly fundraising competiton among the various city department. The bin was placed just inside the doors of the library and notices placed in the e-newsletter to allow residents to join in. The response was so great, employees decided to leave the barrel in place until donations slacked off.
