Girl Scouts to take part in Gerald R. Ford Tree Lighting tonight

Make it a point to stroll downtown this evening for the Annual Presidential Museum Tree Lighting Ceremony at 7pm at the Gerald R. Ford Museum at 303 Pearl St. NW in Grand Rapids, MI.

For the first time in its history, Girl Scouts, with Rockford Service Unit 322, will be included in  performing the Flag Ceremony at the outdoor event.

Immediately following the tree lighting, there will be live music, a sing-along and the announcement of the 2014 Community Tree Awards.

Make a difference on Wednesday, October 22 for the precious cats of Crash's Landing by visiting one of 14 different Pizza Hut’s.

Print the flier from Crash Landing & Sid’s Sanctuary web site. Present the filier to one of 14 Pizza Hut locations from 11am – 11pm for Dine-in, Carry-out or Delivery to get 20% of your bill donated to Crash’s Landing and Sanctuary for their assistance with stray cats.

Halloween Hoot in East Grand Rapids

The "Halloween Hoot" event in East Grand Rapids, MI will take place on Saturday, October 25th from 1 - 3pm at the East Grand Rapids Middle School for children 3 - 12 years of age. Cost is $5 per child or max of $20 for a family of 4 children.

Dress up in your costume and take part in the costume contest for prizes. There will be bouncy inflateable toys among all the games you can play.

Everyone attending is asked to bring a canned goods product to be donated to a local food pantry.

On Wednesday, September 24 from 11am to 11pm the public is invited to present the coupon to any one of the 14 Pizza Hut locations and 20% of their total bill will be donated to Crash’s Landing & Big Sid’s Sanctuary. This is included for Dine-in, Carry out or Delivery.

2014 MidWest Ferret Fellowship Faire on September 20

The Midwest Ferret Fellowship invites the public the chance to see the judging of a variety of Ferrets at their best. 

This Faire takes place on Saturday, September 20 at 9:30am at a new venue, Whiskers University located at 2855 29th Street, Suite D in Grand Rapids, Michigan 49512.

This Faire is sanctioned by the American Ferret Association and proceeds will benefit the West Michigan Ferret Connection.

Admission is $5.00 for adults, $2.00 for children 7-15 yrs. Free for children under 7 with paid adult.

My Town EGR: Croswell Avenue town home proposal goes to city commission

EAST GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—  The city commission will take up plans to add two more town homes to Croswell Avenue SE Sept. 15.

Kevin Brant wants to demolish the existing homes at 715 Croswell and 721 Croswell and build two two-story town homes, each with two units.  The two-phase project would include a basement and roof top access, as well as an attached garage for each building.

The planning commission approved the final site plan during its meeting Aug. 12. The city commission begins at 6 p.m. on Monday.

In April, Mosaic Properties began clearing a portion of Croswell Avenue to make space for a new residential development, which included 10 town homes, a standalone home for a family and retail space.
