EGR intersection still closed from power line mishap

EAST GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) An intersection in East Grand Rapids is still closed Thursday after power lines were pulled down Wednesday.

The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Reeds Lake Blvd. and Lakeside Dr. SE. Consumers Energy and the City of East Grand is asking people traveling in vehicles and walking to avoid the area while crews fix the lines. Consumers estimates the work should be done by around 8:00pm.

Witnesses tell WZZM 13 a DTE truck snagged a line and snapped two utility poles. One of the poles snapped off at the ground, sprung up in the air and smacked back down through the hood of a vehicle parked nearby.

No one was hurt, but power was knocked out in the surrounding area, including at many businesses in East Grand Rapids' Gaslight Village. Power has been restored.
