Famous Children's Author to visit EGR Library

EAST GRAND RAPIDS - The public library here will soon host a visit from famous children's author and EGR native Chris Van Allsbug.

Below is the full press release:

Kent County, Mich. -- Kent District Library, Grand Rapids Ballet and Schuler Books & Music will host an author appearance and book release for two-time Caldecott Medal-winning children's book author and illustrator Chris Van Allsburg. An East Grand Rapids native, Van Allsburg is releasing a new book, The Misadventures of Sweetie Pie, in early November. It is a poignant story of one hamster's struggle with destiny as he transitions from life in a pet store to human homes, and perhaps even, the great outdoors.

Van Allsburg will be at KDL's East Grand Rapids Branch on Monday, November 24 from 6:00-8:00 PM for a community celebration the whole family will enjoy! Don't miss out on the Nutcracker-themed crafts, costumed dancers, treats from Jersey Junction, Sweetilicious Bakery and more - as we celebrate the release of The Misadventures of Sweetie Pie.

The event is FREE and open to the public; the book signing will be ticketed.

Tickets are free with purchase of The Misadventures of Sweetie Pie from

. Each ticketholder may have the author sign up to three copies of newly purchased titles, and one copy of any Van Allsburg book from their personal library. All book orders and accompanying book-signing tickets will be available for pick up at the event.

"It's going to be a huge thrill for kids to be able to meet the author of their favorite books," said Holly Goulet, a youth paraprofessional at the East Grand Rapids Branch of KDL, "We're especially lucky to have him at this branch given his ties with the community."

To pre-purchase books and get a book-signing ticket online, go to

or visit Schuler Books & Music at their Grand Rapids location (2660 28th St. SE, Grand Rapids). Books will be available for purchase during the November 24 event. Due to anticipated demand, it cannot be guaranteed that books purchased the day of the event will be signed.
