GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)- The Grand Rapids Griffins have never signed a player from the metro Grand Rapids area. Until now.
Former East Grand Rapids and University of Michigan star Luke Glendening has signed a one-year contract with the club. Glendening scored 31 goals in his Michigan career and was a two-time captain of the Wolverine team.
"I had so many neat opportunities at Michigan," said Glendening. "I was blessed when I first got there to even have a chance to play there. They were the only team that was willing to give me a chance. I got to play in a Frozen Four. I got to play in the "Big Chill." I got to play in a national championship game. Those are things that a lot of people don't get to experience. It's always been a dream (to play professionally in Grand Rapids). I grew up watching these guys. It was something that I did with my family on Friday nights. But I never thought it would happen, to be in Grand Rapids a year after I graduated. But I'm happy to be here and it's a great opportunity."
Glendening graduated from East Grand Rapids High School in 2007 and was a member of the school's first of five straight state championship football teams.
