East Grand Rapids studio to offer wine

EAST GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) -  A new business in East Grand Rapids is going to mix paint with wine, or beer.

The owners of Brush Studio led the effort to change an East Grand Rapids liquor law so patrons can drink alcoholic beverages while they work at the art studio.

Brush Studio is a new instructional art shop in Gaslight Village, 2213 Wealthy Street.

The previous law in East Grand Rapids meant that only restaurants could sell alcohol, and 50% of the gross receipts had to be from the sale of food or non-alcoholic beverages.

But, Brush Studio co-owner Lisa Jabara helped convince East Grand Rapids leaders, and Lansing's liquor control board of a new trend in businesses nationwide.  The trend is for businesses to serve wine or beer on the side, while taking an art class or a cooking class, for example.
