My Town EGR: City to consider replacing snow clearing equipment

EAST GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—East Grand Rapids may soon have a new tool to help clear snow from city streets and parking lots.

Monday night, the head of the city’s Parks and Recreation Department will ask city commissioners to adjust the budget, allowing the city to purchase a John Deere Gator with a snow blade for $21,883.  The city’s budget currently only covers $21,000 of the cost.

The Gator will be used to clear snow from school grounds, as well as city streets and parks.  The equipment would replace the city’s current Gator, which has “outlived its useful life” but is still needed for daily operations.

The commission will weigh in on the request during its regular meeting, starting at 6 p.m.
