Street Construction Status Report

The City’s annual street resurfacing program is underway, but behind the schedule originally anticipated. The status of work is listed for each street below:

East Beltline construction causing traffic backups

East Beltline construction causing traffic backups

Lane closures on East Beltline Avenue are causing traffic backups in both directions.  Four miles of the road between I-96 and Lake Eastbrook Boulevard have been under construction since late May.  Crews are repairing concrete joints and upgrading sidewalks with American Disability Act compliant ramps.

The photograph in this article shows the traffic backup today (Saturday) in the southbound lanes.  Construction work is also forcing traffic into one lane in the other direction.  Lanes are closed 9 am to 3 pm and 8 pm to 6 am on weekdays. During the weekends, expect lanes to be closed from 8 pm on Fridays until 6 am on Mondays.

The project is expected to be completed in mid-August.

Road Work Coming

  • ROAD CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS BEGIN NEXT WEEK. The City’s street resurfacing projects are scheduled to commence on Tuesday, July 5, 2011. The work in general involves removal of the top course of asphalt by a milling process and spot repairs to damaged curbs and then placement of a new asphalt surface.

All work is scheduled to be completed by the 1st week in August. Residents may have limited access to their driveways during paving operations and if concrete repairs are necessary at respective driveways.

The roadways included in this year’s program are as follows and will be completed in the order in which they are listed.

Albert Drive (Gorton to Andover)
Groton Road (Richards to Boston)
Cambridge Blvd.

With the roller coaster weather pattern so typical of March in Michigan, the potholes are returning to local roadways. City crews are out daily putting cold-patch material into potholes as they find them.

If you notice a pothole in need of patching, please call the Public Works Department at 940-4870. Be sure to give as much information as you can, including which street, travel lane, and a nearby house number or intersection. You can call anytime; if the offices are closed, just leave the information on voicemail.
