Early signs point to high voter turnout in EGR

East Grand Rapids, MI - WZZM13's Peter Ross was in East Grand Rapids this morning to cast his ballot. Peter was the 175th voter at ward 1, pricint 2.

One election official told him that turnout this morning has been, "Really good."

The November 2nd election is just around the corner. Voter turnout in East Grand Rapids is expected to be about 70%, meaning the polling locations will be very busy places for most of the day. Here are a few items that may help you minimize lines on election day:


There are definitely peak times. If possible, you may want to arrive at one of the following times when volumes are typically lower:

9:00 am - 11:00 am
1:00 pm - 4:00 pm


The ballot is fairly long and two-sided, with many offices and two ballot proposals to consider. You can download a "sample ballot" that will allow you to look over the choices ahead of time to save time at the polls.

Absentee Ballots Available

ABSENTEE BALLOTS AVAILABLE FOR NOVEMBER ELECTION. If you are going to be out of town on election day, you can vote by absentee ballot before you go. You can also vote absentee if you are over 60 years of age or meet other requirements.

For an application, call 949-2110 or stop by City Hall between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. Absentee ballots can be mailed to you if requested by Saturday, October 30th (offices will be open 8:00 am until 2:00 pm), or you can vote at our offices on Monday, November 1st until 4:00 pm.

The ballot for November is quite lengthy, so allow a little extra time to vote on Election Day. If you'd like to educate yourself on the candidates and proposals in advance, you can download a sample ballot to review.

    The next election will be on Tuesday, November 2nd to elect a new governor, state and county officials, and to vote on two statewide ballot proposals. A sample ballot is available for download if you wish to study the choices prior to election day. You must be registered to vote by Tuesday, October 5th in order to vote on November 2nd.
